DRAC MEETING LAST NIGHT!!!
Sorry everyone we didn't advertise it on here, the next meeting is December 4th.
Here is the biggest highlight....
While not 100% confirmed it appears that Dollar General will NOT be pursuing the Coach House site.
While it is great news, this is far from over. The owners still want to sell and the building is quite crippled in its state. We have perhaps 9 months if not less to do the following.
1. Get it on the historic register - BTW this does NOT keep it safe from demolition.
2. Find out how truly feasible it would be to have the facade restored and the inside simple made usable.
3. If economically feasible find investors to purchase the property.
4. Have a business willing and ready to move in and willing to be financially responsible for the proper upkeep and maintenance of the property.
The family/LLC who owns the property has every right to sell it. Instead of hitting panic mode if they want to sell to a less than desirable entity, we ALL need to step up and ask around to see who would be willing to come into Claymont and take on this building. Remember, it doesn't HAVE to be a restaurant. It can be pretty much anything.
Please send messages to myself and or Catherine Carter Kelly Greenif you have experience and or time, we could use your help in the research process for the Historic Register. If you know the history of the Coach House from before it was a restaurant, we need your help with the full back story. If you have pictures that are more than 50 years old of the building, we need copies of those too. If you can donate ANY time toward this, it is appreciated.
Thanks everyone for your support thus far and we still need you! I will be putting up separate posts regarding community events and some other tidbits.
Love this town!!!
